Senner Earplugs performance comparison

This article provides a performance and protection comparison for the 2020 range of Senner earplugs.

Unfortunately, the Senner website makes it very difficult to compare the protection values of their products, instead focusing on the name and colour of the product as being what matters in making a buying decision. A curious marketing choice.

What is APV?

I am focusing on the ‘Assumed Protection Value’ or APV (dB). The APV gives an indication of the amount of decibel (dB) reduction at any given frequency. The higher the APV, the better the protection at that hearing frequency range.

The APV should be subtracted from the dB value of the sound that you want to block to indicate the resultant sound. It is worth noting that under UK guidelines, an additional 4 dB should be subtracted to allow for performance reductions caused by inexact fit and users failing to properly follow the fitting guidelines.

As an example. If the noise that you want to suppress at 4000 Hz is at the level of 80 dB and the product APV suppresses 20 dB at 4000 Hz, the user’s resultant experience will be 60 dB (64 dB with allowances for user issues).

As you can see, there appears to actually only be 3 different products. The the and the are the most efficient while the MusicPro is a stand-alone product. The other products are the same from a performance perspective, just with different colouring.

If you are looking for the highest level of hearing protection from the Senner range, then based upon this Senner Earplugs performance comparison, you should consider the or the .
